Formats

Single Camera Drama is when you use one camera only, it is a classic method of film making for production. A single camera is employed on the set and shots each scene individually. Each of the numerous shots are taken using the same camera, the camera is then reset to record and the lighting is re-done for each camera position. Traditionally the single camera technique was used in the times of celluloid film as often the price of processing more than one camera was to great for some film makers. However, the single camera technique can still be contrasted today with 2 camera setups which are used in TV programs.

Single Drama

Single Dramas are designed to be one off television, this is when that it is a one off event and it usually has no follow on and it does not keep to a schedule. It is usually about issue in the world at that time and that they are better suited to be on TV rather than in the cinema. Single dramas used to be all the range many years ago however, they are not so common now.

The example I went for was Murdered by My Boyfriend this was a single drama that was released by BBC in 2012 it told the true story of how a mother was killed by her boyfriend and it was also a huge success. This is a good example as it was a one off.

Serial

A serial is a lot like a series in that it a set of related programs that are on TV rather than in cinema. It is usually a work of fiction which is split into multiple parts and broadcasts every day or at least once a week. For example today's episode will always link to yesterdays episode, this is what draws the audience in as they want to know what is going to happen. Soap Operas (Soap's) are a example of serial TV.
The Example of Serial Television I went for was ITV's Coronation Street as it is the longest running Soap Opera in British Television history. It aired its first episode on 9th December 1960 and it has been on every day since, It is incredible as the show celebrated it's 9000 episode on the 28th September 2016.

Series

A TV series is a segment of content intended to be broadcast on TV rather than Cinema and commercial use, it is also a set of related programs. A TV series is usually based on a work of fiction For example, Game of Thrones is based on the best-selling fictional novels by George R. R. Martin. However they do not have to be entirely based on works of fiction. BBC's Planet Earth is a series about the harsh truth of nature. Each programme is usually self-contained, what this means is that each episode has a beginning, middle and end.
A League of Their Own
The example of a TV series I decided to do was Sky 1's A League of Their Own. A League of Their Own is a sports based TV series which is focused on the week's sport and it is one of the most popular shows on the broadcaster. This is a prime example of a series as each episode starts looking at the week in sports and concludes with a challenge at the end. The show is currently in its 9th series.

Scenario

I have been recruited to shoot a short drama for a new slot just before the early evening aimed at young adults. Effective production will call upon my ability to put into affect knowledge and skills relating to single camera formats, structures and techniques, as well as my ability to plan a shoot and film and edit the drama
